DHARAMSHALA, October 11: No Tibetans have been injured or property owned by Tibetans damaged around Nasik Tibetan market where an explosion on October 7, gutted 5 shops.

According to Nashik Tibetan Market Association’s Vice President Tsering Bhuchung, the blast occurred where shops were mostly owned by Indians.

However, the warehouse owned by Tibetans was situated near the blast site. “The blast slightly damaged the roof of our warehouse located near the blast site. Besides that there are no damages either to the goods or lives,” Bhuchung told Phayul.com.

The police said the blast occurred at around 5.30 a.m. in Sharanpur road locality in Nashik.

Following the blast, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) was called and the place was quarantined for investigation.

Nashik Commissioner of Police Ravinder Kumar Singal said, “The BDDS did not find any signs of explosives, but top police officials are investigating the case. It is suspected that it could have been due to an LPG cylinder.”

The Tibetan Market in the state of Maharashtra has around 500 shops of which Tibetans own 102 shops, which are run by 19 families. The market was established in the year 2003 and unlike other seasonal Tibetan markets; Nashik Tibetan Market has a round the year business.
