DHARAMSHALA, April 24: The Tibetan Chamber of Commerce (TCC) today expressed willingness to setup business ties and associations with Tibetan businessmen inside Tibet during its 12th Annual General Body meeting at Norbu House in Mcleod Ganj.

“Chinese government is least interfering if it is only business related association. Hence it gives us an opportunity and also a path to reach out to our fellow Tibetan businessmen inside Tibet,” said Tsering Dorjee, a member of the TCC, adding that the association is also putting in effort to find legal means to do business.

He also added that they are working with a former member of the association currently living in Tibet, to realize the ambition.

Tibetan Prime Minister (Sikyong) Lobsang Sangay, acknowledging the ethical practice maintained by the members of TCC, urged them to continue implementing its tagline ‘Business with Ethics’ in their business engagements.

“You must stick to what you have endorsed, which is ‘Business with Ethics’. It would be unacceptable if any unethical business practices happen. It would also earn a bad name to Tibetans as a whole, including His Holiness and CTA,” said the PM at the event attended by Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel and Ram Swaroop, advisor of Indo-Tibetan Friendship Association.

The Harvard educated political leader also urged the members to follow the precedent of ethics in business set by the Tibetan sweater sellers, who have been doing business with Indian hosiery wholesaler based on trust for over 40 years.

Earlier in the day, the members of TCC had a private audience with the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama who, according to Tsering Dorjee, emphasized on the importance of economy in today’s world.

“His Holiness told us that economy is related to every aspects of life including education, culture, and religion these days. His Holiness told us Tibetans doing businesses should follow ethical business practices and not just think of personal gains. He told us to have a holistic view and also think about the community and environment as well,” Dorjee said.

Lobsang Ngodup, President of the 142-membered association in his statement, proposed the Tibetan government in exile to formally celebrate June 27, celebrated as Micro-, Small and Medium Enterprises Day, as Tibetan Enterprise Day.

During the two-day meeting, members will also elect will elect the new Board members and the second day would also feature a workshop GST, soon to be introduced tax law, by Sathya Kumar, CA.
