DHARAMSHALA, April 5: A two member US Congressional delegation is on an official visit to the exile Tibetan seat here in Dharamshala which, in addition to being the ground zero of the Central Tibetan Administration, is also the residence of the exiled Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama and where most of the prominent Tibetan exile NGOs are based.

Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Representative Claudia Tenney on Wednesday visited the Central Tibetan Administration. The duo was received by the CTA officials at the newly built T(ibet) building auditorium where they met President Dr. Lobsang Sangay along with his administrative staff and a members of the Tibetan exile parliament.

Representative Ileana Ros-Lehniten said that US Congress is working side by side with the CTA and other organisations to formulate a US policy in support of the people of Tibet.

Ros-Lehniten said that she will propose bills, “to pressurise China to resume dialogue with His Holiness the Dalai Lama for a resolution of the Tibet issue and the release of all political and religious prisoners,” and “to exert effort for the appointment of a special coordinator for Tibetan issues in the state department and for the passage of the Reciprocal access to Tibet bill sponsored by Congressman Jim McGovern,” according to the CTA run Tibet.net.

The two will meet the Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Thursday and visit prominent Tibetan NGOs and organisations in and around Dharamshala such as the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute, Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts and the Tibetan Children’s Village on Friday.

The Congressional delegation is accompanied by Mr. Nathan Gately, Ms Sadaf Khan, Victoria Marun, ICT President Matteo Meccaci, Richard A Fishel from the US embassy in New Delhi, and Thomas Kress from USAID India, along with OOT Washington Representative Ngodup Tsering and former Representative Kasur Tempa Tsering.
