Ex-political prisoner's video testimony discloses the reality in Chinese jails/ENG

DHARAMSHALA, December 15: A former Tibetan political prisoner has taken the initiative to record his own testimony and distribute it in the form of a short video documentary.

Lhamo Kyab, 33 was arrested on May 13, 2006 for attempting to fly the banned Tibetan National flag and was sentenced to three years in prison. He was sent to the notorious Chushul Prison where he shared cells with prominent Tibetan political prisoners including Dolma Kyab and Bangri Rinpoche.

At the release of his testimony, Kyab reiterated that through his video documentary he hoped to tell the world of the “merciless torment” and torture that Tibetan political prisoners suffer in Chinese jails. Kyab himself, as a result of the beatings and torture from the Chinese prison guards, is suffering from a damaged liver and impaired hearing.

"Its not just about my life experience in the Chinese jail but more of about my friends who are still in the Chinese prisons," Lhamo Kyab said Tuesday at a press conference. In Dharamshala

“Being a former political prisoner, it is my responsibility to tell the world the real situation of the Tibetan political prisoners,” added Kyab.

“Through this documentary, I hope to improve the sad state of the Tibetan prisoners and conscience and also campaign for their early release”.

Speaking to Phayul, the former political prisoner said that he has produced 500 copies of the documentary film for free distribution out of his own pocket.

Kyab has dedicated his testimony, “My Reminiscence: Prisoner of Conscience” to those who “lost their lives, jailed, disappeared, and injured for the sake of freedom, peace, and justice in Tibet”.
