DHARAMSHALA, MAY 29: The Tibetan Youth Congress earlier today held a peaceful rally in the sweltering Delhi heat during which coffins of 150 self-immolators were laid at the UN compound.

TYC leaders and over 200 Tibetans urged the UN to hold a ‘special session for Tibet’ in light of 150 Tibetan self-immolated against China's occupation and colonization of Tibet.

“So long as China continues to illegally occupy Tibet, the Tibetan people will continue to protest and resist the CCP’s oppression and policies. China needs to understand that the only way these protests will stop is when they listen to the demands of the Tibetan people”, Tenzing Jigme, President of TYC said.

As the activists marched from the nearby Khan Market to the UN compound in the affluent neighborhood of Lodhi Garden, their slogans such as “China out1", "Shame on you China" and "Free Tibet” made for a contrasting setup in the environment.

Coffins symbolizing the 128 Tibetans who died out of the 150 Tibetans who burned themselves added a stirring context to the dramatics that activism at times demanded.

The largest NGO in exile Tibet called for the UN to put their foot down with regards to the atrocities that continue to happen in Tibet.

“United Nations and its member nations should hold China responsible for their policies and take urgent action for Tibet now,” stated the TYC's press release.

“This generation and the younger are born and raised in an environment of aggressive propaganda and China’s efforts to brainwash the Tibetans into believing that China and Tibet are one country and that the former has brought development and happiness to the Tibetan people. The acts of self-immolations and protests are a glaring rejection of this propaganda.”

"The United Nations does have a responsibility and we hope that the members of the UN will understand that the issue of Tibet is not just an issue of morality but what happens to Tibet affects surrounding Asian nations and even the world at large politically, environmentally, socially and economically,” the statement further added.

The 150 Tibetan burned themselves in last eight years, including a young monk named Jamyang Losal, 22, who set himself on fire and died on May 19 in Eastern Tibet.

China, meanwhile have resorted to harsher and stricter means to handle Tibetan self-immolations. The Chinese authorities have criminalized self-immolation and families and friends of victims are held liable and subjected to punishments.

The TYC's activists in Delhi's capital in the sweltering summer heat were escorted by a cordon of Delhi police with heavy barricades and vehicles ready just in case.
