DHARAMSHALA, October 18: Coinciding with the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, around 50 Tibetans including members of Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (Rohini) and TYC executive members stormed the premises of the Chinese Embassy in the Indian capital.

Police arrested the activists from the largest pro independence group of the Tibetan exiles following protests outside the heavily guarded Chinese embassy in New Delhi today.

TYC President Tenzing Jigme, along with VP Tamding Hrichoe, General Secretary Ngawang Lobsang, Cultural Secretary Tashi Dhundup, and Social Service Secretary Tashi Targyal are currently held under police custody at Chanakyapuri Police Station. No information is available regarding their release as of now.

In a press statement for the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party, TYC president Jigme said that ‘there is nothing to celebrate’ since under Xi’s rule hundreds of human rights lawyers have been arrested or disappeared, Larung Gar destroyed, self immolation increased and Tenzin Delek Rinpoche killed in Chinese prison and Liu Xiaobo silenced to death.

“Xi has failed Tibet. Another 5 years of Xi Jinping’s rule is dangerous. We take the 19th Party Congress as an opportunity to highlight Xi’s dictatorship and failed leadership and we urge world governments into action. We remind world leaders that he is not the solution and the communist party is not the answer,” Jigme said.

China’s top party meet kicked off today at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing with Xi calling on China to take ‘center stage in the world’ and assured that the country is ‘entering into a new era’. His speech on the first also saw him lashing out on act of separatism, especially on Taiwan.

With clear indication towards movements in Tibet, Xinjiang, Taiwan and Hong Kong, Xi in his 3 hours and 23 minutes long speech to more than 2,000 delegates said that China ‘will not allow anyone, any organization, or any political party, at any time or in any form, to separate any part of Chinese territory from China’.

“We have the resolve, the confidence and the ability to defeat separatist attempts for Taiwan independence in any form,” said Xi, who is expected to solidify his power during the weeklong congress.
