DHARAMSHALA, Mar. 13: Tibetan singer and songwriter Sonam Topden who featured in a new Indian Music reality show streamed by Amazon was eliminated from the contest last week. The popular singer participated in the music reality show “The Remix” which featured on online streaming platform Amazon Prime Video.

Topden was paired with DJ Rink and the duo was eliminated in the second episode of the show after failing to secure adequate points from the judges. They competed against 9 other teams and lost out on cash prize of 50 lakh INR as well as professional endorsement by Indian music bigwigs such as Sunidhi Chauhan, Amit Trivedi, and DJ Nucleya who are judging the contest.

Speaking to Phayul, the singer said he felt that the platform was a learning curve and that he will come back stronger. He said, “I just want to say it was a great platform to share the same stage with some of the finest Bollywood singers. And being the first Tibetan to feature on international reality show like this, I really feel proud and I hope my fellow Tibetans also feel the same.”

The singer said his lack of experience and the fact that he was self taught and hadn’t had any formal training was the difference between him and his fellow competitors. “I wasn’t much surprised when I got eliminated at the first round because my collaborators are all super talented, well trained and experienced singers. And I was the only one who had the less experience and not trained at all. But overall it was a great experience and am getting more offers from different reality shows in India so let’s see what brings in the future. All I need is support and love from my own people,” he further added.

Topden, originally from Manali, came into limelight in 2016 with his first single ‘Palkyi La’ and went on to produce hits like ‘Kunsel’ and ‘Ta Serpo,’ among others. He is one of the first Tibetan refugees to feature on a reality show in India and is a well known singer-song writer in the Tibetan exile diaspora with an appeal to Pan-Himalaya audiences from India, Nepal and Bhutan, among others. He has 57 K subscribers on YouTube, 55.1 K followers on Instagram and over 99 K followers on Facebook. He is also known by some fans as Tibetan Justin Beiber.
