DHARAMSHALA, Oct. 29: The incumbent President of the exile Tibetan government known officially as the Central Tibetan Administration, Dr. Lobsang Sangay said that finding a resolution to the Tibet issue serves China’s interest and that the proposal of Middle Way Approach (MVA) is a “win-win solution” for both sides. The head of the Tibetan polity was speaking at the CTA’s report launch on the MWA, the official stance the Tibetan movement on Monday in New Delhi.

“It is in the interest of China to solve the Tibet issue in the log run. In the eyes of the international community, China lacks credibility as far as the Tibetan people are concerned,” Dr. Sangay said responding to the question on the viability of the MWA.

The Tibetan President while establishing that Tibet was historically an independent nation said that his administration will continue to strive peacefully to achieve “genuine autonomy” as it does not challenge any of the preconditions set by Beijing such as its sovereignty and separation from the so-called motherland.

“We believe that ultimately China has to solve the Tibet issue. Otherwise the Tibetan people will continue to resist,” he further said, adding that self immolation by more than 150 Tibetans in Tibet since 2009 shows the level of resistance in Tibet.

The CTA’s Information wing today launched a flagship tri-lingual report titled ‘Tibet Was Never a Part of China But The Middle Way Approach Remains a Viable Solution.’ The report published in Tibetan, English and Chinese languages, was unveiled by Prof. Anand Kumar, a Socialist and Reformer, and Dr. Lobsang Sangay, President of CTA, at an event held at India International Centre.

There have been nine rounds of talks between the representatives of the now retired Dalai Lama and Chinese counterparts until 2010 before the talks stalled. Beijing has officially rejected the ‘Middle Way Approach’ and branded the Tibetan government in exile as “illegal”.

Despite the silence from Beijing, the Tibetan President has said that “back door channels” are being pursued to resume contact. “We remain hopeful that it (MWA) will lead somewhere very soon. We do believe there will be talks in the future,” Dr. Sangay said earlier today.
