DHARAMSHALA, May 28: Nobel peace prize winner and child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi called on fellow Nobel laureate, the Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the latter's residence here since Monday.

The two are holding discussions, primarily on the topic of compassion and how that can be incorporated into the Indian education system to better the seeds of India’s future as a model for the world. The Tibetan leader’s office tweeted a photo earlier today saying the meeting is to “exchange thoughts on compassion” between the two renowned advocates of education and peace.

Speaking to the media this morning, Satyarthi said that meeting the Dalai Lama is always a joy and likened the meeting as a meeting of two children. “I love him besides respect and reverence, I love him as a friend. Both of us enjoy being children,” he said.

Elaborating on the content of the meet he said, “We were talking about global issues, crisis and problems which are there for ages and there are new problems that the world is facing today and will face in the future. Both of us believe in globalisation of compassion. We both believe that through compassion, we can solve any problem. Kindness, Ahimsa, non-violence, Karuna are the problem solvers in the world.”

The two unveiled the SEE Learning (Social, Emotional and Ethical Learning) curriculum for the Delhi education board in April. At the event, Sathyarthi was seen saying, “Our children today are conditioned by the divisive identities we thrust upon them. We should not just teach children compassion; we should learn compassion from them. Compassion is the most precious gift of God if there is one. So, let us not confine it to our family and friends. The ocean of compassion can accommodate all of us.”

The octogenarian Tibetan leader has advocated for the revitalisation of the education system which he said places more emphasis on material values. To counter that and to address the emotional crisis of the modern life, the Dalai Lama calls for “hygiene of emotions” and incorporation of warm heartedness in modern day educational curricula.

The Buddhist leader said that India can be the model to his vision to revive the ancient native wisdom as only India has the potential to amalgamate modern education and ancient wisdom for a holistic education system.
