Taipei, TAIWAN: The Taiwan Office of Tibet, in collaboration with the Taiwan Tibetan Welfare Association, yesterday held its sixth annual day-long international conference on Tibet.

Attended by over 50 Tibetans and Taiwanese people, the conference this year highlighted the Taiwanese democratic perspectives on various aspects of the Tibet issue.

As many as 11 scholars and activists from India, Hong Kong, Switzerland and Taiwan gave presentations on various issues related with Tibet, in addition to discussing the current situation in Hong Kong as well as the policies of the Taiwanese government.

Mr Thubten Samphel, Director of the Tibet Policy Institute, gave a detailed presentation on the outcome of the Tibetan Chinese outreach initiatives, while Ms Tenzin Dechen Yundung, President of the Tibetan Youth Association in Europe, introduced her organisation and its work.

Among the Taiwanese and Chinese scholars who gave presentation during the conference were Mr Kei Shek Ming, Chief editor of the Super Media International Group Limited, Hong Kong; Prof Su Jia Hong of Fooyin University and Prof Yeau-Tarn Lee of the National Chengchi University.

During the conference Mr Thupten Samphel and Prof Ceng Jian Yuan of Chung Hua University also released two new books published by the Snowland publications.

The first book, titled Indomitable Spirit, is a biography of two former Tibetan political prisoners, Tanak Jigme Sangpo and Lobsang Tenzin, while the second, authored by Chen Zhen, is based on extensive interviews with Tibetans in exile.

Mr Tashi Tsering, President of the Taiwan Tibetan Welfare Association, delivered the vote of thanks at the conclusion of the ceremony.
