In view of the tragic events in Tibet, exiled Tibetans will gather in a Special Meeting in September to discuss initiatives to ease the urgent situation.

Kalon Tripa of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), Lobsang Sangay, announced the meeting during a press conference at its headquarters in Dharamshala on Monday.

The Kashag (executive arm of CTA) and the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile will organise the Second Special Meeting from 25 to 28 September in Dharamshala.

All the top officials of the exile administration, which includes ministers, members of parliament, secretaries, envoys of the Dalai Lama and his representatives abroad, former ministers, welfare officers at Tibetan settlements, and local assembly members will attend the meeting.

Non-governmental organisations will be represented by one member each. Thirty-five seats have been allotted for people who would like to participate in the meeting on an individual basis. A special quota for youth below 30 years of age who were born and brought up in western countries will also be made available. They will have a separate session where they can deliberate in English, and will be provided with English translations of all the proceedings. In all there will be about 500 people attending the meeting.

There will be a long-life prayer ceremony for the Dalai Lama after the meeting. The proceedings of the meeting will be webcast live on TibetOnline.tv.

The first Special Meeting was held in November 2008 after the Tibetan uprising against the Chinese government was brutally suppressed.
