DHARAMSHALA, April 20: Kalon Tripa Dr Lobsang Sangay left the Tibetan exile headquarters of Dharamshala today to attend the upcoming World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in Chicago and the 6th World Parliamentarians’ Convention on Tibet in Ottawa.

The 43-year old Tibetan elected leader has been invited to take part in the 12th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates from April 23-25, along with a host of Nobel Peace Laureates including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, former US President Jimmy Carter, former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev, former Polish President Lech Walesa and former South African President Frederick Willem de Clerk.

According to the Nobel Peace Laureate Committee, the Nobel Peace Laureates are scheduled to engage in a series of panel discussions on a wide range of topics covering issues such has world peace, justice, nonviolence and how to build a fair and sustainable world.

With the ongoing wave of self-immolations inside Tibet, exile Tibetans are hopeful that the gathering of some of the world’s most respected and loved leaders will raise the issue of Tibet during the meet.

Following the Chicago Summit, Dr Sangay will head to Ottawa, Canada to attend the 6th World Parliamentarians’ Convention on Tibet from April 27-29.

Apart from the de facto Tibetan prime minster, a 60-member strong Tibetan delegation, including Tibetan Members of Parliament from India will take part in the convention being hosted by Canada for the maiden time.

Over 50 parliamentarians, representing 30 countries from around the world are expected to take part in the three-day meeting.

The World Parliamentarians' Convention on Tibet aims to promote the cause of Tibet through a unified network of Parliamentarians for Tibet, and to facilitate meaningful negotiation between His Holiness the Dalai Lama or his representatives with the People's Republic of China.

This is Kalon Tripa Dr Sangay’s third visit to North America since he assumed office in August last year. He also visited Europe twice and Japan once in the past nine months.

Kalon Tripa will return on May 4.
