Paris : The Bureau du Tibet along with Tibet Groups in the French National Assembly and Senate, yesterday hosted a joint reception to celebrate the 81st birth anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet at the National Assembly.

The reception was attended by Co-Presidents of the Tibet Group in the National Assembly, Mr. Noel Mamere and Mr. Jean-Patrick Gilles, along with other deputies, senators, assistants of parliamentarians, representatives of French Tibet support groups and NGOs, as well as representatives of Tibet Community in France.

Mr. Kelsang Gyaltsen, Special Representative of CTA in Europe was also present on the occasion.

Welcoming the invitees, Mr. Jean-Patrick Gilles, Co-President of Tibet Group in the National Assembly reiterated French Parliamentarians’ support to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people in their quest for basic human rights and freedom of expression.

Mr. Noel Mamere, co-president of the Tibet Group in the National Assembly, in his brief address paid tribute to His Holiness the Dalai Lama not just as a spiritual leader but a humanist, who for that matter attracts wide following in France. He also evoked the importance of Tibet’s environment, particularly Tibet as the Water Tower of Asia.

Special Representative Kelsang Gyaltsen welcomed and thanked the guests for their presence at the ceremony to celebrate the 81st birth anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, which he said, is an important gesture of support during this difficult period of Tibetan history, and source of inspiration for the Tibetan people.

He said that it is the enduring appeal and power of Europe’s ideals, values and principles, which are human rights, democracy and the rule of law, that makes Europe strong. And therefore, he concluded, it is time governments in Europe answer the call of one’s principles and values and declare solidarity with the people of Tibet and to act on the issue of Tibet.

The celebration ended with a humble cocktail reception.
