DHARAMSHALA, Aug. 13: Attending to his last schedule in the South Indian city of Bengaluru, Tibetan exiled leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Monday visited the ‘Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education’ on the outskirts of the city.

The Tibetan leader was there to inaugurate a hostel complex at the institute, built with funds donated by Kaiser Foundation from Switzerland.

A gathering of close to a thousand people including the Vice Chancellor of Bengaluru University, former Vice Chancellor of Mysuru University, Khenpos and abbot of Monasteries, members of Tibetan Parliament Pema Delek and Tsering Youdon, South Zone Chief Representative and Settlement officers, Director of TCV, Principal of Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Studies as well as students attended the event.

The Tibetan leader told the Tibetan students there to work hard and represent their countrymen that are in Tibet. The Tibetan leader recounted the hardships that the nation of Tibet faced in the aftermath of the Chinese invasion and targeted assault on the all things Tibetan during the brutal cultural revolution years.

The students were urged to tell the world the truth about the repressions that Tibetans have experienced since the Chinese invasion of Tibet.

Prof K.R Venugopal, Bengaluru University Vice Chancellor announced that the institute earlier affiliated to the University of Mysuru will hence forth be affiliated to the University of Bangalore and will provide Ph.D degrees in the coming years.

The Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Institute is owned and operated by the Tibetan Children’s Village, an integrated charitable organization for child care and educational services aimed to provide sound modern education and a firm cultural identity to Tibetan students.

The Tibetan leader returned to Dharamshala on Tuesday.
