***image1***DHARAMSHALA, Aug. 7: The ongoing Doklam stand off between China and India should be resolved with the interest of both parties in consideration, the exiled Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama said in an interview with a leading TV channel on Sunday.

“China and India are both great and ancient nations. They have to live side by side. The only realistic approach is one that achieves mutual benefit; the Dalai Lama was reported of saying by his private office. The Tibetan leader however asserted that “there have been Chinese troops on the Indian border since the so-called liberation of Tibet where there were none before,” according to the same report.

Mincing no words, the Nobel laureate viewed that China’s commitment to its peaceful pronouncements on the world stage falls short in practice. “They say they want stability, yet the methods they employ give rise to fear. When there’s fear, there’s no trust and where there’s no trust how can you expect to create harmony or stability?” the 82 year old told Times Now TV Channel in New Delhi.

The Doklam standoff began almost two months ago when China was confronted by India, Bhutan’s protectorate while Chinese military was constructing strategic metaled road in the disputed Doklam plateau. The completion of the Chinese military project would give them tactical upper hand in what the experts call the “chicken’s neck” region near Siliguri in the event of disharmony with India.

The situation remains tense between the two countries with both the government passing aggressive rhetoric. While India call for diplomatic channels to resolve the issue, the outposts on the border regions are fortified with additional men who are kept in operational readiness for war. China’s state run media outlets have begun the propaganda war saying China may launch small scale attacks as soon as in the next few weeks.

UK economist and politician Meghnad Desai has said recently that the Doklam row can escalate into an all out war between the two nations beginning at the plateau and unfolding in various other theatres of war such as the South China sea. The Indian born politician also said that Trump led US will back India in the melee.
