DHARAMSHALA, Mar. 28: The last few tumultuous weeks of Indian government’s discouraging signals towards the exile Tibetan government and its commemorative events has not weighed down the head of the Tibetan polity, President Dr. Lobsang Sangay, who on Wednesday at the Central Tibetan Administration’s seat here in Dharamshala, said that there is no change in the Indian government’s stand on either Tibet or the Dalai Lama.

The statement from the President comes days before the much talked about thank you India’s marque event scheduled to be held here in Dharamshala after being shifted unceremoniously from the Indian capital after what many refer to as a ‘snub’ from the highest order in New Delhi.

The organizing committee of the year long, Pan-India themed ‘thank you India’ events today released a promotional music video and three books at a press conference held today at the Kashag Secretariat hall here in Gangchen Kyishong.

The Tibetan President received some criticism from Tibetan legislators earlier last week during the parliamentary session on the handling of the much publicised events which eventually had to be toned down and become in some quarters, a cause for embarrassment for the exile Tibetan government. President Sangay today said that the Indian government’s move is understandable and caused no disappointment to his administration, adding that India has done most for Tibetans and Tibet during its most testing times.

“There is no change in the Government of India’s stand on Tibet and the Dalai Lama. Therefore, Tibetans should not worry. The circular was issued with regard to the Indo-China bilateral meet in the coming months,” President Sangay said while adding that his meetings with Indian politicians post the ‘circular’ from Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale had been positive.

There are also reports that Culture minister Mahesh Sharma and BJP general secretary Ram Madhav will participate in the function in Dharamshala which the Dalai Lama is also attending. The guest-line come Saturday will serve better to quell the much debated matter, rather than the polarising rhetoric that have been circulating the past weeks.
