DHARAMSHALA, Oct. 5: The President of the exile Tibetan government known officially as the Central Tibetan Administration, Dr. Lobsang Sangay was honored with the Takasu Award yesterday here. The award from the Takasu foundation included a medal and a monetary sum of 10,000 USD.

The founder of the award Dr. Katsuya Takasu who presented Sangay the award said that he felt an affinity to the Tibetan people who he said have a lot of similarities with the Japanese people. He said, “When I hear about the Tibetan people’s suffering, I feel like my own family is suffering.”

The prominent plastic surgeon urged the Tibetan people to continue their struggle by using non-violence and that education for the Tibetan youth is the way to strengthen the struggle.

President Sangay said that he accepted the honor on the behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration and as the incumbent head of the Tibetan polity. “I am just one person. One person alone cannot achieve much. It is with the support of my colleagues in the Kashag and the full strength of the CTA structure that we can make a difference in our work. Therefore, I believe this prize is a recognition of our collective effort and contribution,” he said in his acceptance speech.

“The success of the Central Tibetan Administration is due to its deep commitment to its democratic principles, represented in the harmony of the three pillars of judiciary, legislature and executive and the blessings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama,” he said.

In January 2015, Dr. Katsuya Takasu through his Foundation and Takasu Fund of Japan donated a sum of USD 138,000 towards the Scholarship Endowment Fund of Department of Education.
