DHARAMSHALA, MAY 11: Former Kalon Tripa (Head of the Cabinet) Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche has said that the Tibetan mothers and women in general have the foremost and an important responsibility of upbringing the future generation of Tibetans. The former politician and religious figure was speaking at the inauguration of the 12th General Body Meeting of the Tibetan Women’s Association, one of the largest Tibetan Non Governmental Organizations of the Tibetan Diaspora.

Also present as guests at the event held at Sarah College of Higher Tibetan Studies were Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok, deputy speaker of the Tibetan Parliament, former education minister and TWA advisor Rinchen Khando, TWA president Dolma Yangchen and members of the Tibetan parliament.

192 Tibetan women from 37 different chapters of the TWA have gathered here in the exile Tibetan headquarters for the meeting during which discussions on future works of the organization will be discussed. The meeting will also witness the election of the new executive members of the organization.

TWA honored Tsering Dolkar and her sister for dedicating their lives to the service of Tibetan patients receiving treatment at the PGI hospital in Chandigarh. The organization also honored members who have served the organization for more than twelve years as executive members.

TWA President Dolma Yangchen said her organization was blessed with the opportunity to present the Jamtse Lopon Award’ to the Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama last year and that the advice he gave at the audience had boosted their morale to work even harder.

Reestablished in 1984 in exile, the TWA has grown into a dynamic organization of Tibetan women working towards the Tibetan cause and empowerment of Tibetan women. Today, the organization with its headquarters here has 56 chapters around the world and 16000 members.
