DHARAMSHALA, JUNE 1: The President of the exile Tibetan government praised the annual Yarkyi festival of the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts and said that the institute continues to be the bedrock in preserving the unique Tibetan performing traditions.

“Through this institute we showcase the beauty, the depth, the dynamism of our culture, of our music because as we know music is a language between heaven and earth and you can see the beauty of Tibetan music, beauty of Tibetan performance. This is what we want to preserve,” President Lobsang Sangay said.

Sangay further said that the foundation laid by pioneers in exile who worked under the vision of His Holiness the Dalai Lama have borne fruits. He said, “The hard work of a dozen artists who had come from Tibet under the guidance and advice of His Holiness the Dalai Lama has created this internationally recognised institute.”

Ngonpa House is the winner of this year's Yarkyi competition competition between two houses - Gyallu and Ngonpa. Each house presented a solo song, two traditional Tibetan dances and 25-minute long drama each.

The Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts is the pioneer cultural institution established on 11 August 1959 under the leadership of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. The Yarkyi celebrations are held during TIPA's founding anniversary each year.
