Tibetan Protester Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison in Ngaba/ENG

DHARAMSHALA: Tsering, 26, was sentenced to 5 years in prison on 29 November by the Ngaba County Intermediate People’s court for his role in the March 2008 pan Tibet uprising.
Tsering hails from Raru village, Cha township in Ngaba county. His father’s name is Lori and mother’s name is Chokyong Tso.
Tsering was a former monk of Kirti monastery who had disrobed in 2007 before returning to his family in the pastoral area.
He went into hiding to evade arrest after participating in the March 2008 protests against the Chinese government.
He remained in hiding until April 2010 when he was arrested from a restaurant in Ngaba town. Since then he was in detention awaiting trial.
Other Tibetans awaiting trial after getting arrested for their involvement in the March 2008 protests are Geri of Me’uruma township and Jigme, a monk from Ngaba Kirti monastery.
