DHARAMSHALA, Nov. 9: The latest Tibetan self immolator called for the return of the exiled Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama to Tibet as he burned fatally on November 4 in the restive Ngaba town in eastern Tibet's Amdo region, exile sources confirmed today.

Dhorbo, 23, who set himself on fire on Sunday shouted slogans calling for the Tibetan leader’s long life and for his return to Tibet from exile. Kanyag Tsering, a Dharamshala based monk from the Kirti monastery here confirmed Dhorbo’s slogan, “May the Dalai Lama live long! May we soon behold his golden countenance!”

The Tibetan youth hailed from the village of Jakorma in the Choejema area of Ngaba County. His father Chopa, and mother Trinle Kyi had passed years ago and was living with his uncle Jampal Drakpa, Tsering further said.

The self immolation by Dhorbo marks the 163rd self immolation by a Tibetan since 1998. Out of the staggering 163, 10 has happened in India and Nepal where the bulk of the Tibetan diaspora is based.

The restive region of Ngaba is considered the hotbed of protest through self immolation; the first self immolator in Tibet, Tapey burned himself in Ngaba town in the year 2009 marking a gruesome yet non-violent form of protest in the town in eastern Tibet that has seen a large chunk exceeding 40 counts of the total self immolations.
