DHARAMSHALA, Feb. 11: Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama said that the “emotional crisis” the world is undergoing can be remedied by individuals realizing that they are all part of the 7 billion human population who are all same.

The Dalai Lama was speaking to a group from United States led by spiritual teacher and author Deepak Chopra, at the latter’s residence here on Monday. He said, “The emotional problem is because of ‘we and they’ mentality. We are all the same mentally, emotionally and physically.”

A staunch advocate of demilitarization, the Nobel laureate said that pockets of ongoing violence in the world is symptomatic of the old thinking that seek to destroy other on the basis of secondary differences of race, color, country and religion among others.

“Whenever there is a problem, they always think of weapon and force to address the problem, that is old thinking. I believe and I tell people that the 21st century should be the century of dialogue,” he said adding that the movement to denuclearize the world should be adopted by the people and not be expected of only from international bodies like the United Nations.

The Tibetan leader, now approaching 84 years, said younger generations should carry forth the mantle in striving for a more peaceful world. He said he expects younger world leaders to carry on the mission and recalled his meeting with former US President Barack Obama. “I told him, after me, you should carry forward the promotion of world peace and nonviolence, and he (Obama) promised,” he shared.

The former Nobel peace prize laureate, the octogenarian leader has repeatedly said that as recognised figures, Nobel laureates should band together to counter violence in the world and lead the fight towards demilitarization and denuclearization of the world.

The Dalai Lama revealed his plan to hold a meeting with Nobel peace prize winners later this year in New Delhi where he said leaders such as Obama and Kailash Satyarthi will attend.
