DHARAMSHALA, April 20: The Indian Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar, currently in China on a diplomatic visit, has been assured of better relations between the two countries by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang who said the ties between the two Asian giants are inevitable to the stability and development of the region.

Chinese government mouthpiece Xinhua has quoted Li as saying that development of the two key nations and cooperation between the two will be a “great engine” to Asia and will act as a “positive signal” to the world.

The Chinese Premier expressed hope of boosting a stable bilateral tie with a strengthened relation of dialogue, exchange and proper communication in the defense sector and armed forces of China and India. Parrikar has earlier met with Chinese counterpart Gen. Chang Wanquan and top military officials in a bid to talk over the persistent border disputes and areas of diplomatic stalemate.

“India attaches highest priority to relations with China and committed to further developing friendly and cooperative relations with China,” Parrikar told Chang in his opening remarks before the two delegations started their talks on April 18.

The Indian Defense Minister is also pushing on a mutually acceptable Line of Actual Control (LAC) which will act as being the only solution to the problem of regular incursion allegations and border skirmishes. Currently there are five border points; two in Arunachal Pradesh and two in Ladakh which are operational.

China has on several occasions sent patrolling troops inside Indian Territory in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh. India’s confrontation on the incursions at a diplomatic level has been denied by China, claiming their troops have only been patrolling its own territory. The disputed border between the two runs a mighty 3,488 kms.
