DHARAMSHALA, Oct. 25: As a prayer service for the late mother of disappeared Tibetan activist Lingtsa Tsetan Dorjee was held today at the Thekchen Choling Tsuglakhang temple, his own whereabouts and conditions is still a mystery, more than five years after he disappeared near the Indo-Nepal border, somewhere close to the town of Kalimpong.

Hundreds of local Tibetans, monks from the Namgyal Monastery, representatives of key Tibetan NGOs, Tibetan officials and members of the Tibetan parliament together piad respects and prayed for late Dhombo Kyi on the 49th day since her death. Tibetan Buddhists believe the soul of the departed is freed from the purgatory state and achieves form in the next life on the 49th day after death.

The disappeared Tibetan activist’s remaining family of his sister Lhamo Kyi, his Israeli wife Yael Pferrer and two children attended the prayer service. Tsetan’s daughter Tamari (Tharma Tso) and his son Ereli (Khawe Lhasey) live with their mother in Israel.

A bereaved Yael told reporters that Dhombo Kyi was a special mother-in-law and that despite language barrier with her grand kids, they loved their grandmother very much. “Today is a very sad day for us as we say our final farewell and goodbye to a very special and humble mother-in-law. To me she symbolised everything good and symbolised the Tibetan people. We will miss her very much and we thank the Tibetan people for welcoming us and making us feel a part of them,” she said.

The Tibetan President Dr. Lobsang Sangay who attended the prayer service called both Dhombo Kyi and his son “patriots”. He said Tibetans should pray for late Dhombo Kyi to be born among them in her next life.

“If he (Lingtsa Tsetan Dorjee) is currently held in a Chinese prison, we urge that he be released immediately,” Dr. Sangay said adding that he is also an important writer who is committed to doing something for his nation, and that his administration will extend all possible help to the family.

The late Dhombo Kyi accompanied his son and her daughter on a walk to Tibet on 10th March 2012 from Dharamshala, on the Tibetan Uprising Day, crossing six Indian states and covering 1,300 Kilometres in sixty days before being stopped by Nepalese border security forces in Gorakhpur.

Lingtsa Tsetan Dorjee carried out two ‘Dhasa to Lhasa’ peace marches beginning in 2012. His first march ended with his arrest by Nepalese police who put him in prison for 8 months. He set out on his second peace march on March 10, 2013 from Dharamshala and disappeared somewhere near Kalimpong near the Indo-Nepalese border, according to intelligence reports. Although some say that the Tibetan activist disappeared after he crossed over into Chinese occupied Tibet.
